Cool Better Mapping

Well, since my last thread with this suggestion kind of died out after 12 posts(even though every post was in favor of my idea), i have decided to put it up here again.

So, my idea is to make it so whenever you go into an explorable area, it will sway --% completed. For example, lets say you have uncovered half of Eternal Grove, then when you go into the area, it would say ETERNAL GROVE 50% COMPLETED. This would make it a lot easier for those cartographer-title-searchers, because they wouldn't have to check every place in the world to find that tiny .1% they need. Also, when you open of the world map, the percentages should be posted there.

Keep in mind that Guild Wars is not supposed to be about the grind, which is what map exploration can sometimes lead to. This idea could help make achieving the titles less of a pain and more fun.

So, what do all of you think about this? Please posts you thoughts.

Cool Jimmy

I still like this idea. People will say that it cheapens the cartographer title, making it too easy. But the fact is, you still need to go to every single nook and cranny of every single area in order to get the title. You still would have to EXPLORE to find out where that missing 5% is on this map. It would make the title less "frustrating" without making it any less "difficult."

You DO know that you're going to get posts from people who earned it "the hard way" and think that because they suffered through it in the current form, that it should never be smoothed and polished for the next group? I admire the people who have done it, have gone through all that, but still... They are the people who should be giving feedback on what parts of it were boring, frustrating, or generally "not fun," so that it can be improved. Sadly, so many seem to think that improving the fun level of it, reducing the frustrations that come with it, somehow invalidates their own accomplishments.

Characters will come and go. Giving feedback that makes the game more fun for everyone else? That will endure. Please think about it.

Seems like a pretty good idea because I'm trying to get the Mapping thingy for Tyria.

Im not going for cartographer, but i read somewhere you can find your .0001% by downloading a 100% complete map online and reveal areas you dont have by comparing the online version to your map in photoshop or fireworks

If it's not a hassle to program, sure, but if it's a hassle, I'd rather the Devs work on something more... meaningful.

I don't think this is really needed. If you go through in a systematic way from the beginning (ie scraping the walls of every map, and if you don't do a whole area, just jot the area name down somewhere), then you should have no problem. I admit, i don't have any cartographer titles. I am about 1.5% away from getting Elona, but that's because i didn't explore the garden area before it fell, and I have to wait till I finish the game (which may be awhile since I rarely play the character anymore).

I agree that it would make it less annoying in some areas, but I don't see that it's needed. So yeah, if it's an easy enough thing to implement, I say go for it. If it's too difficult, then I say leave it.

Also, about GW not being a grind and getting cartographer is... the titles are supposed to be a grind. They're optional, so it's alright if you have to grind to get them. You don't have to grind (too much in the case of NF or Factions) to play through the actual game, but with most optional things, it's completely reasonable to have grind.

Meat Axe is correct.

All these players that say Guild Wars is not about "grind" are confused. The titles and end extras that are in the game have to be grind oriented for those that have finished the game.

To play through the storyline, there is no grind necessary. You get your max armor, required title levels, and items without the need to repetitively farming a zone over and over.

Grind is good for those that want these titles, and is eeded in Guild wars to keep the interest of those that have played through the game.

I was the first one suggesting this.
I sayd that the % should show in the Mission map [N] panel title, so you'll have to get in each area to know it.

And notice that not all areas can be 100% explored.

This would merely allow people to walk into all areas, check the % and look in Guild Wiki the highest % known for that area.

This would help a bit for those with a missing 0.1% map.
